Following 2025's Magnetica, producer Morgan 'Soulpersona' Howell and trumpeter and multi-instrumentalist Bryan Corbett never actually set out to make a second album. They simply carried on recording a track or two each month until another record took shape.

All the songs were composed in the early hours of the morning, at dawn, which is where the album's title Aurora came from.

Musically, the pair haven't tried to reinvent what worked on Magnetica. Aurora continues their blend of cinematic, soulful jazz-funk and rare groove, paying homage to the trumpet-led CTI recordings of Freddie Hubbard and Donald Byrd, alongside the 1970s library music of KPM and Bruton and composers including Alan Hawkshaw and Francis Monkman.

SoulP's groove-led, uncluttered production leaves space for Corbett's trumpet, flugelhorn, trombone and flute arrangements, with guitar from long-time collaborator Terry Lewis (Mamas Gun).

Across 11 tracks, Aurora unfolds like the soundtrack to an imaginary film, moving through lush and laid-back moments, tension, melancholy and the downright nasty. It's a feeling Craig Charles captured perfectly when describing Magnetica as “The music I have in my head when I walk into a room.”
